I have your letter of the 24th of August

relating to the case of Mr. McCartney, one of the officers of a ship attacked and burat by pirates in Chinese waters.

The Goverment of hong Kong have Kr. McCartney $911 by way of compensation taking into consideration the loss of all his effects. As the piracy took place in Thinese waters I do not think that the liong Kong Coverwent can be pressed to display any further generosity. I am, however, sending out a copy of your letter to the Governor for his consideration and will let you know what he says when I get his reply.
